In summer 2020, users on social media began sharing images implying that Adolf Hitler, Fidel Castro, and Aleister Crowley are the parents of Angela Merkel, Justin Trudeau, and Barbara Bush.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that all three prongs of the claim are false. Merkel was born in 1954 to Horst and Herlind Kasner, while Hitler died in 1945. Justin Trudeau was born in 1971 to Pierre and Margaret Trudeau. His mother did meet Castro once, but that took place several years after Trudeau was born. Barbara Bush was born in 1925 to Pauline and Marvin Pierce.
The rumor about Trudeau was likely started following criticism that he praised Castro as a “remarkable leader.”
However, all claims of parentage shared in the viral images are false.
