The Claim

A vaccine called “CV-19” that can be used to track citizens was patented in 2012 following meetings with Joe Biden.

Emerging story

In summer 2020, users on social media began sharing the claim that Joe Biden had helped patent the vaccine as early as 2012.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar found that the claim is satire. It stems from a meme. In the last lines, the meme reads: “By the way, none of this is true. This is actually a photo of William A. Mitchell. He invented TANG, Cool Whip, Pop Rocks, and Instant Jello. Stop getting your news from memes and calling it research! Good lord, people!”

However, while the original post was satire, its contents were still shared by social media users who may not have read the whole meme. As we have reported on before, many people believe that the COVID-19 vaccine will be used to track citizens through microchips, despite a complete lack of evidence indicating so. The vaccine has engendered many rumors.

Fortuitously, the first week of the first US Phase 3 clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine has “satisfied” medical professionals.
