In early August 2020, users on social media began sharing the video, which they claim is from Kerala.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that, while Kerala has experienced extensive rainfall lately, the video is actually from Mexico in July.
The video was first shared on July 28, 2020, soon after Hurricane Hanna swept over Northeastern Mexico, leaving a path of death and devastation in its wake. The rain from the storm led to rivers flooding, which washed away the cattle seen in the video. We matched screen-grabs from the video from the article with that shared in the recent claims that it takes place in Kerala, and found that they match. While the video itself has not been manipulated, it did not take place in Kerala.
