In early August 2020, social media users began posting the claim that George Soros is a Nazi, and that he is funding Antifa.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the allegations are false. George Soros is Jewish. His father created a false identity for the family as Christians so that they would not be persecuted in anti-Semitic Budapest. Despite claims, Soros never helped the Nazis or renounced his Judaism.
Open Society Foundations, the grantmaking network founded by Soros, does financially support civil liberties, including black-led racial justice groups.
However, that is very different from funding Antifa. It is essentially impossible to fund Antifa, as it is a broad group of people with similar political leanings. It is not an actual organization. Further, since Antifa actually started to fight Nazi Germany, the idea that Soros is a Nazi who would fund Antifa is untenable.
