Emerging story
Since Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris for his Vice Presidential candidate, social media posts have been circulating, pointing out many accusations regarding the candidates individually and their relationship. One of these has involved reposting Kamala Harris’ birth certificate, on which it is claimed that Harris is deemed ‘Caucasian’ by her parents at birth.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation into this claim reveals it to be false. The birth certificate actually states that Harris’ mother is Caucasian, and that her father is “Jamaican.” However, both these characterizations do not paint a complete picture, since in fact her mother, Shyamala Goplan, was Indian and immigrated to the US by way of Jamaica, where she met Harris’ father, Donald Harris, also from an Indian family that had immigrated to Jamaica. In other words, until full genealogy records are shown, one can’t be sure what Harris’ complete parentage is, but records indicate that she is likely almost entirely Indian, and may have some slight African-Jamaican ancestry as well. On a side note, it may be misleading from a broader perspective to focus on the purity of the lineage of any candidate for office, rather than their qualifications, or more specifically what they will actually do once in office.
