Emerging story
A photo has been shared hundreds of times on Facebook alongside a claim that it shows Russian President Vladimir Putin sitting at a table with his daughter. The photo was spread after Russia announced it was the first country to approve a vaccine for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. At a meeting with government ministers on August 11, Putin said that one of his daughters was inoculated with the vaccine as part of a medical trial.
Misbar’s Analysis
The claim circulating is misleading, as the girl in the photo is not Putin's daughter. Misbar’s reverse image search on Google found the photo actually depicts a young girl who was a patient at a Moscow oncology center. She was photographed sitting next to Putin during a visit to the Kremlin in May 2012.
This is not the first time social media users circulate a misleading photo of Putin's daughter.
