Emerging story
After a two-week operation in August 2020 to rescue endangered and missing children led by the US Marshals Service (USMS) Missing Child Unit, a total of 39 children were recovered and nine adults arrested in connection with crimes ranging from sex trafficking to parental kidnapping. The large number of children recovered immediately went viral on social media, with the headlines morphing into "39 Missing Children Found in Georgia Trailer."
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation into this claim reveals it to be false. The children recovered in Operation Not Forgotten, as the operation was nicknamed, were found across Georgia, Florida, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. As such it is unlikely that they were all found in the same trailer. Nevertheless the operation was a great success and the authorities in charge should be lauded for their efforts.
