The Claim

62 girls were found in a shipping container heading from Delaware to Europe.

Emerging story

Social media users shared the claim in September 2020, often with the hashtags #SaveTheChildren and #SaveOurChildren.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is false. We contacted a public affairs officer for U.S Customs and Border Protection, who told us that the claim is “bogus.”

We also searched dozens of news outlets for articles about the purportedly rescued girls and found nothing. Finally, we looked on the Port of Wilmington’s Media Center page to see if they had published about the rescue, which they did not.

Because of the #SaveTheChildren and #SaveOurChildren hashtags, lack of supporting evidence, and focus on sex trafficking, it appears that the claim is part of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

We have debunked many of their false claims before and plan to continue doing so.
