Emerging story
In the late summer 2020, news broke that Nancy Pelosi had flown to San Francisco, her hometown, and gone to a hair appointment even though all the salons were closed due to quarantine. This story has gone viral on social media and has resulted in some outrage. Claims that Pelosi spent $120,000 of taxpayer money to complete the journey also circulated and have caused additional outrage.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation into this claim reveals it to be false. Pelosi is known for using commercial airlines and she did not fly to San Francisco, her home, specifically for the appointment but rather flew home commercially for an extended stay of eight days during the recess in congress. Thus while it is true that Pelosi violated quarantine and even took her mask off during the appointment while supposedly being a ultra-high risk as an elderly woman, the specific claim of her spending taxpayer money to do this is far more dubious.
