In September 2020, a meme was published on Facebook which claimed that no politician had died from complications of the COVID-19 pandemic. The meme and its message subsequently went viral on social media, especially Twitter.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation shows that the claim is fake. The Misbar team conducted research showing that on the national stage, South Dakota State Rep. Bob Glanzer and Louisiana State Rep. Reggie Bagala both died in April from complications surrounding COVID-19. Additionally, at the local level, Jersey City, New Jersey councilman Michael Yun and chairwoman of St. Paul, Minnesota board of education Marny Xiong also both died from COVID-19 complications. Additionally, former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain died from COVID-19 complications back in July.
