Emerging story
A video of a Bahraini lawmaker burning an Israeli flag inside the Bahraini parliament in protest of the UAE-Israel peace agreement has been widely circulating across the MENA region. The 30-second clip has been doing rounds on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Misbar’s Analysis
The circulating clip is actually in 2012, not 2020. Misbar’s investigation found using TinEye that the video was first found on November 20, 2012. The Israeli flag was burnt in the parliament session eight years ago. According to reports, MP Osama Al Tamimi torched the Israeli flag in the presence of fellow MPs in protest against the Israeli aggression in Gaza in 2012, which killed 279 and injured 2173 Palestinians.
On September 15, 2020, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed a normalization with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to "end the Arab-Israeli conflict once and for all," at the White House.
