Emerging story
On September 27, 2020, Bradley Parscale was detained by police. After a video showing the incident was released, many social media users claimed that Parscale was arrested.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that Parscale, who served as President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign manager until July, was actually Baker Acted after being detained. Fort Lauderdale police responded to a call that said Parscale was agitated and attempting suicide. The police report states that his wife was covered in bruises from a physical altercation with Parscale. She said that she ran out of the house when he picked up a gun and started shooting. Police showed up with a SWAT team and detained him.
The police placed Parscale under a Baker Act. The Baker Act, or Florida Statute 394.451-394.47891, allows for a 72-hour involuntary commitment of an individual to undergo psychiatric evaluation. It is not the same as being arrested.
Trump campaign’s communications manager Tim Murtaugh said: “Brad Parscale is a member of our family and we all love him. We are ready to support him and his family in any way possible."
