The Claim

Donald Trump has the cure for COVID-19.

Emerging story

After Donald Trump's interview on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show, claims about a cure for COVID-19 started circulating. Social media users claimed that Trump is a clear example that COVID-19 has a cure. Users also claimed Trump produced a cure that will be given to Americans for free.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar's investigation found the circulating claims misleading. The truth is antibody drugs aren’t cures and it’s not likely that everyone will be able to get them as President Donald Trump has suggested.
The experimental antibody drug given to President Donald Trump has been called one of the most promising approaches to preventing serious illness from a COVID-19 infection. According to the AP, medicines are still in testing; their safety and effectiveness are not yet known.

While Trump again pledged Friday that his administration would rush the antibody-drug to hospitals so that COVID-19 patients could receive it “free of charge,” he did not include specifics as to how the expensive treatment would be funded. Nor did he update the status of possible emergency use approval from the FDA for the drug, saying only that he had already “signed it.”
This is not the first theory spread by Trump about how to prevent and treat the disease.
