The Claim

In the video below, Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden promotes jihad.

Emerging story

On October 9, 2020, the Gateway Pundit published an article, “EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: Video of Joe Biden Calling for a Muslim Jihad Was Created, Translated, Promoted and Endorsed by the US Government.”

The article and its claims soon went viral on social media.

Misbar’s Analysis

The video in question, in which Biden addresses Muslim political group Emgage, has been the source of many false claims. Some have claimed that in the same video Biden said that schools should teach children Islam, which we have previously debunked.

In his speech, Biden quotes the Prophet Muhammed to say: "Whomever among you sees wrong, let him change it with his hand. If he is not able, then with his tongue. If he is not able, then with his heart."

Biden goes on to encourage Muslim Americans to vote. Emgage is known for encouraging Muslim Americans to vote. Their “about us” page reads:

Since advocating voting is vastly different than promoting jihad, Misbar rates the claim that Biden called for "a Muslim Jihad" false.
