Misbar’s Analysis

For years, there have been rumors that Kanye West would run for president. He said several times that he was considering running.

On July 4, 2020, West announced that he would be campaigning for president and had chosen Michelle Tidball to be his running mate. West refers to his independent political party as the “birthday party,” as winning the presidency would equate to everyone having a birthday party. Its stated values are to put religion back in America, in both a legislative and cultural context.

Now that it’s election time, people might be wondering what West has been up to. Is his campaign real, or was it just a publicity stunt? If it’s real, how will this affect the election?

West has put is quite a lot of effort to ensure that his name is on the ballot, rather than as a write in. He has succeeded in some states, so his name appears along with Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

His intent may have been to pull Black voters away from Biden. When asked about it, West said that he “wasn’t denying it.” Some argue that it will have the opposite effect and negatively affect Trump, but it’s almost impossible to know for sure.
