The Claim

French media didn't report about two Muslim women stabbed in Paris.

Emerging story

Following the Paris stabbing incident, social media users claimed that French media didn’t report or mention the attack. Twitter users across the MENA region tweeted expressing their anger. Users claimed that the French media didn’t report about the incident because the women stabbed were Muslims.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar's investigation found the claims misleading.
In contrast to what was mentioned in the circulating claims, we found the topic covered in different French media news outlets.

Euronews reported that no information about the incident was initially released by authorities, which led to some criticism from online users. According to the AFP, two women accused of stabbing two other women wearing Muslim headscarves near the Eiffel Tower in Paris and trying to rip off their veils have been charged with assault and racist slurs.
French news outlets reported the alleged stabbing perpetrator was remanded in custody. The victims of Sunday's attacks have been identified as French women from an Algerian background named only as Kenza, 49, and Amel, who is a few years younger.

Kenza was stabbed six times and ended up in the hospital with a punctured lung, while surgery was carried out on one of Amel's hands,
said an investigating source.
Confirmed images from the scene circulated on social media and news websites.
