Emerging story

A video claiming Erdogan insulted Buhari went viral amid the ongoing #EndSARS protest. Social media users claimed the Turkish president insulted President Buhari over killings in the protests.
The video was widely shared on WhatsApp and Facebook.

The 30-second video captured a man claiming its Erdogan cursing President Buhari.

“Buhari I am telling you, I am calling you from Instabul, I am calling you from Turkey, stop killing the people. Are you crazy? You idiot, you are a crazy man, what are you doing, which kind of religion do you believe in…”

Misbar’s Analysis

Our investigation found the claims baseless for two reasons:

1)The person speaking in the video is not the Turkish President.

There is nothing mutual between Erdogan and the man speaking in the video.

2)The video has been online since 2017.

The video is not related to #EndSARS. The 30-second video is an old video that has been recirculated and is in no way related to the #EndSARS killing nor the president of Turkey which was said to be the one speaking in the video.
