On a segment of NBC’s The TODAY Show, they played a clip of an interview with Joe Biden, claiming he is “appearing to confuse his opponent’s name.”
In the clip, Biden says: “Four more years of, George, uh, George… we’re going to find ourselves in a position where Trump gets elected, we’re going to be in a different world.”
After the clip of Biden is played, commentary from NBC adds: “It comes as the former vice president was pressed to respond to the president’s claims that Biden is not mentally fit to serve.”
Users across social media reposted the clip and commented on Biden’s cognitive ability, even using #BidenDementia as a hashtag.

Misbar’s investigation shows that this video is misleading and taken out of context. The interview was being conducted by comedian George Lopez along with CNN and The View commentator Ana Navarro. In the full video clip tweeted by Biden, starting at 12:34, Biden is actually addressing George Lopez after he is asked a question about why voters should vote and why they should vote for Biden.
The Today Show added an editor’s note to indicate that the clip was misleading.
Questioning Biden’s cognitive ability has been an ongoing strategy implemented by the Trump campaign.
