The Claim

You can change your vote after already casting it in most states.

Emerging story

On October 27, 2020, President Donald Trump Tweeted: “Strongly Trending (Google) since immediately after the second debate is CAN I CHANGE MY VOTE? This refers changing it to me. The answer in most states is YES. Go do it. Most important Election of your life!”

The post was retweeted over 50,000 times as of October 28.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is false. There are only three states – Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan – that allow you to change your vote. However, they have varying deadlines; Minnesota’s has already passed.

If you have already turned in your mail-in ballot, it is possible that you may be able to work with election officials if you go vote in person. However, this process varies greatly state by state.

The claim that “most states” allow you to change your vote is incorrect.
