A Fabricated Screenshot of Rana Ayyub
Fareed Zakaria show on CNN aired in March2020(Screenshot).

The Claim

Rana Ayyub condoned the beheading in France and justified the recent attacks in a CNN show.

Emerging story

A viral screenshot of Rana Ayyub on CNN is widely circulating online. The screenshot shows Washington Post’s journalist saying, “you cannot hate all Muslims for just two beheadings.”
Users shared the image with captions criticizing and mocking Ayyub.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar's reverse image search found that the circulating screenshot fabricated. The screenshot is originally from an interview of Rana Ayyub in a CNN show in March 2020. Ayyub was in the show to comment on the dozens killed in New Delhi during Donald Trump’s visit to India. Fareed Zakaria’s show on CNN was aired on March 1, 2020 before the recent French attack.

On Twitter, Ayyub rubbished the fake picture stating that the image has been morphed and the statement attributed to her is fake. Ayyub called the image morphed and said she is sick of battling disinformation.

During our investigation, we also realized a spelling mistake in Rana Ayyub's name.
