Emerging story
Following the 2020 U.S. presidential election, rumors started to spread on social media that DeKalb County in Georgia had disqualified 40,000 mail-in ballots.
Users across social media continued to push this claim.
Misbar’s Analysis
The Misbar team has determined that this claim is false. DeKalb County posted a tweet where they said that roughly 200 ballots were up for question and that those affected voters were being contacted either by phone or mail.
According to Jessica Huseman, a reporter for ProPublica: “This county had 170,856 mail ballots requested — 40K rejected would be insanely high for Georgia, which rejected only 1 percent of ballots during the primary. The secretary of state's office tells me they expect around 3,000 rejections across the whole state."
Based on the information provided, we rate the claim as false.
