Emerging story
A day after Election Day in the United States there is no clear answer as to who won the presidential election. Due to the abundance of mail-in and absentee ballots sent in because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been difficult to track and account for all votes.
During the night of November 3rd, the race between incumbent Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden was extremely close, often shifting back and forth on a state-by-state basis. As of time of writing, the election is still extremely close.
In an effort to show his displeasure with how the election was progressing, President Trump took to the Twitter pulpit. Many of his Tweets were flagged with the statement: “Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process.” Meanwhile, some of his Facebook posts were marked with contextual notes from the platform.
Misbar’s Analysis
It is clear that Trump has not thrown in the towel on this election. With crucial swing states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania still in play it’s anybody's race. Although the final ballots may soon be counted, it is doubtful that simply tallying up the votes will be the end of it. By going through Trump’s social media posts on a variety of platforms, we have determined that the claim is true: many of his posts are being flagged as misleading or untrue. We at Misbar will continue to update the ongoing events of the presidential election as it progresses.
