The Claim

The GOP did not lose any seats in the House of Representatives in the 2020 election.

Emerging story

Two days after the 2020 election, President Trump said during a speech in the White House briefing room that the GOP did not lose any seats in the House of Representatives.
Users across social media continued to push this claim.

However, other users were quick to refute the claim.

Misbar’s Analysis

The Misbar team has determined that this claim is false. Republicans did lose House races in the election; however, they won some as well, enough to hold a net gain in seats. Prior to the election, Democrats controlled the House of Representatives by a 232-197 majority. At the time of this writing, the results were 213-194, with the Democrats still holding their majority, although 28 races remain to be called.

The Democrats flipped two seats in North Carolina, one by Rep. Deborah Ross in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District, and one by Kathy Manning, who will represent North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District. As such, we rate the claim that the GOP lost zero seats in the House of Representatives as false.
