The Claim

The extensive purple bruising on Senator Mitch McConnell’s hands suggest that he may be affected by a terminal illness.

Emerging story

Mitch McConnell’s hands are unusually purple. This has prompted some to speculate on the significance of his hands’ coloring and whether or not it’s indicative of a health problem (some even wondered if this was a symptom of coronavirus). He was asked about this at a press conference, where he firmly denied that he had any health issues. Despite this, some people still assert that McConnell’s hands are too sickly looking to not be a symptom of a disease.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that senior citizens are prone to a myriad of health conditions. One of these conditions is known as Bateman’s Purpura (BP), also known as senile purpura. People with BP suffer from extensive bruising, usually on their forearms and hands. It’s caused from a weakening of the blood vessel, which comes from years of exposure to the sun. BP isn’t dangerous, although it does look a little unusual.

Mitch McConnell is almost 80 years old, making him a senior citizen. As such, he’s in prime age for developing BP. Whether or not he’s experiencing other conditions, however, is unknown to the public.
