Emerging story
Following the results of the 2020 presidential election, a Facebook post showed a picture of a supposed New York Post story with a picture of President Trump and a headline that read, “You’re Fired.”
Users across social media continued to spread the image.
Misbar’s Analysis
The Misbar team has determined that this image is false. After television networks called the election for Joe Biden, social media users began taunting Trump by uttering his catchphrase from The Apprentice on posts, saying “You’re Fired”. However, the New York Post did not actually produce the cover.
The Facebook post shows the alleged cover dated for November 4 and features a picture of Trump with his tie undone following a June campaign rally with a quote that reads, "My fellow Americans, our long NATIONAL NIGHTMARE is over.”
While people have taunted Trump by uttering this catchphrase, the actual New York Post cover dated on November 4th says “Nailbiter” with a quote that reads, "Trump defies polls, election on razor’s edge," alongside an image of a woman biting her nails.
