The Claim

Following the 2020 U.S. presidential election, Facebook removed the title of “President” from Donald Trump and replaced it with “Political Candidate.”

Emerging story

Following the election, Facebook users began sharing the claim, calling it “disturbing” and “a shame.”

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is false. Facebook did not change Trump’s designation following the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. We looked at archived versions of the page and found that as early as January he was called “political candidate.”

Further, the page is managed by “Donald J. Trump for President, Inc,” and is the official Facebook page for Trump. This means that his campaign was who described him as a political candidate.

Since Facebook did not change Trump’s designation, and he was designated a “political candidate” long before the election, this claim is false.
