Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation shows that the claim is false. A New York Times article states that Dallas Jones, a political consultant in Houston who works as the Texas state political director for the Biden campaign, denied the charges. He said: “I was not arrested. These are categorically made-up allegations. They are baseless.”

The viral post says that Jones was arrested after he was "formally accused of helping to run an illegal ballot harvesting operation in the state of Texas on behalf of the Joe Biden campaign."

However, we looked through arrest records and found that he was never arrested.

Additionally, the photo circulating on social media that allegedly shows Jones being arrested is actually a screenshot from a 2019 video of the actor Cuba Gooding Jr. being arrested.

Filings made by Republicans in September accuse Jones of illegal ballot harvesting in Harris County, Texas. Those filings aimed to block the extension of time for mail-in and early voting. The Texas Supreme Court rejected that request.

There is no evidence to support that Jones was arrested, only accused. That paired with the fact that the video circulating with the claim that allegedly shows him being arrested is of Cuba Gooding Jr. being arrested instead of Jones leads us to rate this claim as false.
