The Claim

Twitter has a story section just like Instagram and Snapchat.

Emerging story

In November 2020, social media users claimed that Twitter will be adding stories just like Instagram and Snapchat.

Social media users started expressing that they are annoyed by the new story feature. Users also tweeted they wanted the retweet and edit button other than the stories feature.

Misbar’s Analysis

Twitter revealed it was globally launching tweets that disappear after 24 hours, similar to the stories feature popular on Snapchat and Facebook's photo-sharing app Instagram.

In the process of being deployed, it should concern the entire Twittersphere in the coming days. It allows you to write text, share a video, or upload a photo.

Misbar's investigation found the claims selective as not all Twitter users have the new fleet feature.

The new fleets feature will allow users to post content that disappears after 24 hours. It looks a lot like stories on Facebook and Instagram — and Snapchat. Just as they are on Facebook and Instagram Stories, links to fleets appear in the top portion of the Twitter app, and they’re also accessible by clicking through someone’s account profile picture.

Like Instagram and Snapchat Stories, people will be able to share reactions to other tweets, videos, and photos. Eventually, users will be able to incorporate stickers and live broadcasts, the company said. Notably, Twitter has not built a way to prevent someone from taking a screenshot of a fleet or a way to provide a notification when someone takes a screenshot of your tweet.

Importantly, fleets can’t be retweeted or shared. Replies to fleets will be private and will function as part of Twitter’s existing direct message system. The goal, in part, is to beckon users reluctant to post publicly on the app to engage in this way. Again, fleets launches today worldwide, so every Twitter user, including President Trump, will have access to the new feature.
