COVID Probably Didn’t Come From a Chinese Lab
The Claim
COVID-19 was developed as a bioweapon from a research facility in China.

The claim was viral throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Misbar’s Analysis
Wherever the conspiracy began, it first gained credence when virologist Shi Zhengli speculated that the virus may have originated and escaped from the laboratory she works at. Some onlookers say that it may have even been engineered at the laboratory, which is located in Wuhan, China – the widely agreed-upon source of COVID-19. There are even some respectable Western scientists trying to back her claim.
Trump has spread this conspiracy theory via tweets; his supporters were predisposed to latch onto the theory and published their own articles. Shi Zhengli has herself appeared little in the public.
However, Misbar’s investigation found that with the exception of Shi Zhengli’s original speculation, there’s not a lot of evidence to support the notion that COVID-19 came from a research facility in China. Shi Zhengli has asked for an apology from President Trump, who she claimed took her speculation out of context. She recently said that she was studying an isolated genome, rather than coronaviruses. The Chinese government has, of course, denied all allegations.
Moreover, many Western researchers disagree. Some say that biology itself shows that the virus came from nature. They studied the molecular biology of the virus and found that its structure and genetic makeup is typical of coronaviruses. In one report, it stated that laboratory creation in this case is improbable.
Of course, pinpointing the exact origin of the virus may be impossible. As of yet, however, there’s no complete consensus as to whether or not it came from a lab.
