The Claim

Emerging story

The claim went viral in July 2020, and went viral a second time in November 2020, when the moons were once again visible from Earth.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is true. We conducted a reverse image search of the photo and found that it was originally taken by NASA employee Bill Dunford

The four moons in the photo are Callisto, Ganymede, Io, and Europa.

They are the four largest of Jupiter's 79 known moons; Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system.

Jupiter and Saturn will have a great conjunction on December 21, 2020. It will be the closest conjunction since 1623.
