The Misbar team has determined that the claim is false. The claim that Haspel has died stems from a news story that alleges that the U.S. military ransacked the Spanish election software company Scytl in Frankfurt, Germany, and confiscated its servers for evidence of manipulation in the 2020 U.S. elections. The Associated Press reported that the raid never happened.
However, social media users then said that Haspel had been involved in the raid and that she was arrested and sent to Guantanamo Bay.
The rumor that Haspel had been arrested began circulating on a website called Rumor Mill News, where Haspel’s name was repeatedly misspelled. The rumor then began to evolve, saying that Haspel had actually died. The Misbar team could not find any credible source stating that Haspel had been killed.
