Emerging story
In December 2020, a claim that a surge of COVID-19 cases stemmed from people having sex with barnyard animals started circulating. Social media users shared an image with the claim that showed a screenshot from Rudy Giuliani’s Twitter account.
Users across social media continued to push this claim.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar's team didn't find the circulating tweet on Giuliani’s Twitter timeline. More importantly, while the image circulating shows that the supposed tweet came from October 20, 2020, the first instance of this being circulated appears to date back no further than December 6, which is the same day it was announced that he had contracted COVID-19. No record of this tweet could be found on Giuliani’s Twitter timeline. Since his antics are repeatedly covered by the media and this one, which allegedly was tweeted in October was not, we rate the claim as false.
The circulating image is obviously fabricated.
