Emerging story
Multiple outlets and published articles related to the same video, in which President Trump supposedly referred to the United States as a “third-world country.” Social media users subsequently expressed outrage over the sitting President’s insult of his own nation, offering scathing retorts of their own. Amongst the backlash were many claims that if there was any regression in the United States, Trump was responsible for it.
Misbar’s Analysis
A quick watch of the video on which all these articles are based reveals that the initial claim has been exaggerated for the likely purpose of attracting attention. Trump did not directly state that the United States is or has been a third-world country. He was, in fact, once again attempting to defame the results of the recent presidential election by stating that the supposed corruption which resulted in his loss was similar to that which might be found in an undeveloped nation. Since losing to Joe Biden, Trump has been using his power and influence to undermine the result of the election.
