The Claim

The Nevada polling system has been compromised by a Pakistani company with ties to government intelligence.

Emerging story

True the Vote, an organization trying to “protect election integrity,” notified the Department of Justice of an alleged security breach. According to True the Vote, they requested a list of eligible voters from the Nevada Secretary of State, who is responsible for elections. In the response email, Kavtech’s CEO’s email address was CC’ed.

In their report the DOJ, True the Vote alleged that Kavtech, a company based in Pakistan, has connections with Pakistani intelligence. In accordance with that accusation, they said that the Nevada voting system has been compromised. It had since been written about in various news publications, including Breitbart and the National File, and went viral on social media.

Misbar’s Analysis

While the email sent by the Secretary of State may have been genuine, there’s no proof that Kavtech has ties to Pakistani intelligence. Most people are probably unaware of who Kavtech is or what services they provide, so their location alone may prompt worries in some people who already think the election is rigged.

The domain name is referring to Kavtech Solutions. They are a data management and security company. It’s probable that Kavtech is contracted by the Nevada government, so CC’ing their address may just be for archival purposes. True the Vote’s report alludes to “rumors of connections with Pakistani intelligence” without clarifying what the rumors are or where they came from. At the time of writing, there’s absolutely no reason to trust True the Vote’s statement, especially since they have such a strong conservative bias.
