The Claim

Pope Francis said that the COVID-19 vaccine is required to get into heaven.

Emerging story

On December 3, 2020, a Facebook user posted a message that claimed, “Pope Francis Says Covid Vaccine Will Now Be Required to Enter Heaven.” The user further commented: “Ok...This Is Why I Am 100% Against The Vaccine...When Obama Bush Clinton and The Pope Are Pushing It I Know Its No Good...The Good Lord Who Sits Above The Firmament In Heaven Says Anything Satan Tells You To Do Just Do The Opposite... I Tell You The Truth These People Serve Moloch and Baphomet...Moloch Is The God Of Child Sacrifices Which Is Proudly Displayed In The Vatican For Viewing And Worship...Dont You Know There Are 8 Million Children Missing This Year Worldwide Which Is A Real PANDEMIC That Nobody Wants To Talk About Especially People Who Participate In Pedophilia or At The Very Least Condone It...They Censor Everything But Pedophilia Because They Promote It On Their Social Media Networks....WOKE YET?”

Many social media users shared similar remarks and comments relating to the news.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar finds this claim to be satire.

The statements originated from a Babylon Bee article published on November 30th, 2020 that claims the Pope stated: “We know that God lets everybody into Heaven because He loves us all…. God has informed me that He will not let you into Heaven unless you have received BOTH DOSES of the very safe vaccine.”

This same post further reads: “At publishing time Pope Francis had received an initial dose of the vaccine and had to be strapped down in a bed for an exorcism before the second dose.”

The Babylon Bee’s “About Us” page says that they are “the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all of its truth claims.” We at Misbar have discussed their website previously.

The Pope has not given any indication of support for this claim. His most recent public announcement regarding the virus was in a September to the United Nations General Assembly in which he supports providing the vaccination to the poor first.
