Emerging story
A Facebook post by Elizabeth DeWitt on December 16, 2020 shows an announcement titled “Trump Campaign Statement on the 2021 Trump Presidential Inauguration at Mar-A-Lago.” The announcement features the Trump/Pence 2020 campaign logo and appears to be written by Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stepien.
The statement declares Trump the “President of the United States of America, and winner of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election.” This announcement has spread on Twitter and users have been bashing the President and Bill Stepien, calling it a “new, pathetic low.”
One Twitter user even encourages the FBI to investigate.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found this photo to be fake.
According to the Trump Campaign website, there are currently no future events scheduled. Bill Stepien’s Twitter account shows no trace of this announcement or anything related to it. There is no evidence that anyone from the Trump campaign released this statement.
This photo was likely created as a parody. Then it was taken seriously by people like Elizabeth DeWitt who are peddling voter fraud theories and claiming that Trump is the real winner of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
According to NBC News, “Trump is not expected to attend the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden. He also does not plan to invite Biden to the White House or even call him."
Three people familiar with the discussions have said that instead of attending Biden’s inauguration, Trump may use January 20 to announce his 2024 campaign or hold another 2024-related event.
