Kepa Didn't Break Beer Bottles From Messi
The Claim
Kepa broke the exclusive bottles of beer from Leo Messi.
Emerging story
After Lionel Messi scored his 644th goal for Barcelona, he broke a record of 643 goals scored. He partnered with Budweiser and sent 644 special bottles of beer to every goalkeeper his team scored against. Each bottle is labeled with the number of goals he scored against, honoring his achievement.
An image of Kepa holding his beers as a cheer was circulating online. Users shared another picture of a broken beer and claimed Kepa broke the bottles from Messi.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, a Chelsea Keeper, happened to receive two bottles, he faced Messi twice in the 2017/18 season for Athletic Bilbao.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar's investigation found the claim satire and misleading. The picture of the broken beer was first found online in 2014.
The picture was in Nigeria when the Nigerian Islamic police destroyed 240,000 bottles of beer in Kano.
The picture circulating is not related to Lionel Messi’s 644 goals record.

Which is why we’ve created a custom bottle for all 644 goals Leo Messi scored. Yes, that’s 644 unique bottles.
