Emerging story

On December 19, 2020, someone tweeted a picture of Senator Bernie Sanders appearing to get a vaccine, with the caption that they were putting him down. The post was retweeted 21,000 times and received almost 270,000 likes.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has discovered that according to BurlingtonFreePress.com, the photo shared on social media shows Bernie Sanders receiving his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on December 19, 2020. The comments on twitter were purely satire. According to Sanders, “Following the advice of the Office of the Attending Physician, today I received the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. As the vaccine is being distributed, we must all continue wearing masks and engage in social distancing. That is how we will beat this virus and end this terrible pandemic.”

According to Newsweek.com, after Sanders received the Covid-19 vaccine over the weekend, a number of memes have cropped up, some joking that the Vermont senator actually got a tattoo instead.

There is no word yet on whether Sanders experienced any side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine.
