Emerging story
On December 25, 2020, there was an explosion in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Following the explosion, rumors began to circulate on social media that the explosion was caused by a missile strike.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar's investigation found that the video that many social media users used as ostensible proof that the explosion was caused by a missile has been misinterpreted. The video is below.
We watched the video and found that what some say looks like a missile actually appears to be a pillar of smoke or debris being propelled away from the explosion.
Authorities found that the explosion was caused by a homemade bomb set off in an RV. 63-year-old Anthony Quinn Warner was the lone bomber. He died in the explosion, as verified by DNA evidence .
The RV played a recording warning others to evacuate the area, along with the Petula Clark song “Downtown.”
Officers evacuated residents in response to the warning. There were no other fatalities besides Warner, but eight people were injured in the explosion, and at least 40 buildings were damaged.
