The Claim

Videos, pictures, events, and personal testimony of people being injected with the COVID-19 vaccine have been faked, as proven by “disappearing needles.”

Emerging story

The claim went viral in December 2020, following the initial rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that some have misinterpreted safety syringes’ retractable needles. Safety syringes are often used in vaccine distribution. The needle retracts into the main vessel of the syringe to prevent others from being stuck with a contaminated needle.

Over two million people in the U.S. have received a COVID-19 vaccine. It seems likely that at least one of them would report that the needle did not pierce their skin if "disappearing needles" were being used.

Although it may appear to proponents of the “disappearing needle” theory that the use of safety syringes means that people are not getting vaccinated, it is actually a necessary health precaution.
