Emerging story
It’s been over a month since the U.S. presidential election, and Donald Trump still refuses to concede to Joe Biden. Despite a lengthy string of legal losses across the country, Trump is encouraging hardcore loyalists to support him in “Stopping the Steal” even as many longtime allies abandon ship around him. In an effort to create further upheaval over the apparent results of the election, Trump has declared that a “BIG Protest Rally” will be occurring on the day of the election certification.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that leading the formal objection will be Senator Ted Cruz, who supports the President despite a history of problematic encounters. Joining him will be a clique of Trump loyalists who plan on demanding an extensive audit of the election results. This move has been celebrated by many Trump supporters across social media, but highly criticized by others. Several other representatives, such as Mitt Romney, have flatly denounced the actions of Cruz and company.
In addition to the formal protest by Congressional representatives on January 6th, the infamous alt-right group known as the Proud Boys plan on shaking things up in Washington D.C. Multiple outlets have reported that the controversial group will be attending protests, some of whom will be dressed in all black. This plan has been speculated on by many as a way to create an excuse for violence by inserting fake Antifa members into the mix, who are known for dressing in black.
With all this brewing up, January 6th is set to be a tense day which might just result in some highly volatile action.
While it is almost certain that the certification will take place, it is bound to be a controversial process. We rate this claim as commotion.
