On January 4, 2020, The Gateway Pundit published an article making the claim.
Users across social media continued to push this claim.
Misbar’s Analysis
The Misbar team has determined that the claim is false. The headline of The Gateway Pundit article reads: "BREAKING: Wisconsin Legislature Announces Resolution To Be Introduced on Thursday Which Will Likely Decertify State and Award to President Trump." The story links to a resolution proposed by state Rep. Scott Allen, R-Waukesha.
However, the bill does not say anything about decertifying votes.
The resolution section of the bill says:
“Resolved by the assembly, That: the Wisconsin State Assembly recognizes that the most important function for a government is to conduct fair and honest elections that follow the duly enacted law; and, be it further
Resolved, That when there are significant portions of the population that question the integrity of the elections due to the failure of election officials to follow the letter of the law, it is incumbent upon the legislature to address the issues that are in question; and, be it further
Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin State Assembly place the redress to these and other election law violations and failed administrative procedures as its highest priority and shall take up legislation crafted to ensure civil officers follow the laws as written.
To summarize, the bill says that the Legislature should prioritize legislation that ensures that election officials follow the written laws.
The Gateway Pundit article also highlights Thursday as the day in which this alleged resolution would be introduced; however, Congress will be meeting to finalize the election results on Wednesday.
Wisconsin cast their votes for Joe Biden on December 14 and the Electoral College confirmed Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.
Despite the headline, which misclassifies what is in the bill, the actual text says nothing about decertifying Wisconsin’s electoral votes.
