Congress has affirmed President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College victory over President Trump.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar has discovered that despite efforts of an unruly mob to disrupt the process, Congress finalized Joe Biden’s win at 3:41 am on January 7, 2021, according to CNN.com. The counting of Vermont's three electoral votes put Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris over the 270-threshold needed to win the presidency. The Senate and House rejected objections to throwing out Georgia and Pennsylvania's electoral votes for Biden. Republicans also objected to Arizona, Nevada, and Michigan's electoral votes, but the motions failed before they reached debate.
The certification followed a day of violence in the Nation’s capital where four people died while storming the U.S. Capitol building. According to BBCNews.com, one woman was shot by police, while three others died as a result of "medical emergencies", officials said. The woman was taken to the hospital and proclaimed dead. She has not been officially named, but local media identified her as a San Diego-area US Air Force veteran and Trump supporter Ashli Babbit. Officials said the three other deaths included one woman and two men, but details of how they died have not been made public. At least 14 members of the police were injured during the unrest.
After the election was certified, President Trump’s deputy chief of staff posted a statement by President Trump that there would be an orderly transition of power. President Trump has been temporarily banned from Twitter.
After rioters attempted to disrupt the certification process, congress worked through the night and certified Joe Biden as the next U.S. president.
