Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar finds this claim to be true. There is in fact a newly acquired billboard along 1-95 that is in support of abortion rights for women. The billboard features two women drinking coke and having a discussion about waiting in line to have an abortion.

The billboard was purchased by The Satanic Temple. As per their website, the group was created to ensure that the rights and interests of all Satanists are protected. They follow the following three principles: “Empathy, Reason, and Advocacy."

The front of the billboard reads, “Our religious abortion ritual averts many state restrictions."

The other side of the billboard says, “Pregnancy complications are the sixth most common cause of death among women between the ages of 20 and 34. Abortions Save Lives!”

The ritual this company is referring to is announced on its website. On their page, they say that “first trimester abortions are now exempt from unnecessary regulations for individuals practicing The Satanic Temple’s religious abortion ritual.” They further state that the ritual isn’t meant to serve as a way to convince a woman to have an abortion but instead “sanctifies the abortion process” by providing support, confidence, and a safe procedure. The billboard in question is one of many that the Satanic Temple has put up in an effort to provide abortion access to those who may not have it otherwise.

The Satanic Temple has also filed many complaints on the behalf of women who, in several states, are required to view literature about life beginning at conception and take part in a waiting period before being allowed an abortion.
