Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be true. According to Reuters, “a laptop was stolen from the office of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.”
On Twitter Drew Hammill, an aide to Nancy Pelosi confirmed that a laptop was stolen and added that it was from a conference room and “was only used for presentations.”
A laptop was also stolen from Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley during the storming of the capitol. He posted a video of the riot aftermath, showing how the rioters broke into his office and stole a laptop that was sitting on the table.
According to the New York Times, Catherine Szpindor, the chief administrative officer for the House of Representatives, said there were “no indications that the House network was compromised.” But she urged lawmakers and their staff members to take inventory of their electronic equipment and treat any storage devices found as “potentially compromised.”
However, as we have already reported on, Pelosi’s laptop does not contain an incriminating email, as many social media users have claimed.
