Only hours after reports that Navanly had been arrested in Russia, the claim went viral on social media, with many decrying the arrest as an infringement on his personal freedom.
Misbar’s Analysis
Navanly was arrested on January 17, 2021, when returning to Moscow, Russia from Germany. The prison service stated that Navanly was detained due to several violations of his parole. Many believe this quick arrest may have been an attempt to ensure Navanly would not have the opportunity to reach out and engage with journalists and supporters when he returned.
Navalny was famously poisoned back in August.
After his arrest, Navanly has urged his supporters to stand up for him and his cause. In a video, he said: “Don't be afraid. Take to the streets. Don't do it for me, do it for yourselves and your future.”
Due to the data and information available on this claim, Misbar finds this claim to be true. Navanly has in fact been arrested; however, the actual charges are yet to be seen.
