Misbar’s Analysis
The Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) is a Maoist political group operating in the U.S. Robert “Bob” Avakian, leader and founder of the RCP, sent an email to his supporters asking for them to vote for Biden. Some media sources say that the RCP’s “endorsement” implies that Biden himself is a Communist. Trump’s website even mentions the email, saying that it shows that Biden is affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party.
Misbar’s investigation found that this email’s existence has been confirmed – but it’s not exactly an endorsement. A political endorsement means that one is officially supporting someone else. In the email, Avakian never gives any sort of endorsement for Biden specifically. His “endorsement” just amounts to “better Biden than Trump,” rather than praising Biden or his policies.
According to Indivisible.org, a political endorsement must be public with a commitment of tangible support and a distillation of the endorsing group’s values. Since the email was not public, and does not include a commitment of tangible support, it is misleading to call it an endorsement.
So, what’s the RCP’s opinion on Democrats? Opinions likely vary, but their views greatly different from that of Democrats. Their very existence shows a refusal to join liberal political parties. Their website advocates for “pressuring” liberals to follow certain policies, showing that they consider themselves a separate faction from Democrats.
