In January 2021, a picture of a Tomahawk Cruise Missile has been widely circulating on social media users. Users claimed the as an indigenously made Turkish Missile.
The image started circulating after reports about Turkey preparing to launch the first home-made frigate.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar found the circulating news to be misleading. This is not a picture of a Turkish made tomahawk alike cruise missile. The picture circulating is an American Tomahawk cruise missile. The image was first found online in 2011 when the missile was first launched to hit certain targets in Libya.
Turkey developed its first sea-launched cruise missile “Atmaca”, and conducted a successful test-fire in November 2019.
The picture circulating isn't related to Turkey.
