Emerging story
A resurfaced video of Fox & Friends host Pete Hegseth went viral recently on Reddit’s r/nottheonion community. In the video, Hegseth says: “germs are not a real thing. I can’t see them, therefore they are not real.” He went on to say that he hasn’t washed his hands in 10 years.
Discussion of the claim took off on social media, with most users making fun of Hegseth.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that germs are, in fact, real. They are microorganisms, meaning that they can’t be seen with the naked eye but can be seen using a microscope. While some germs help the human body to stay healthy, others carry infectious diseases, including COVID-19. The CDC published an infographic showing how to stop the spread of germs and therefore prevent the spread of diseases like COVID-19.
Tips include staying six feet apart from other people; wearing a mask; and yes, washing your hands.
