Following President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Spike Cohen posted on Facebook that the Biden administration had labeled libertarians terrorists.
To support his claim, he linked to the video below.
The claim soon took off on social media.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that this claim is false. In the video linked by Cohen, former CIA director John Brennan says: "I know looking forward that the members of the Biden team, who have been nominated or have been appointed, are now moving in laser-like fashion to try to uncover as much as they can about what looks very similar to insurgency movements that we’ve seen overseas. Where they germinate in different parts of the country, and they gain strength, and it brings together an unholy alliance, frequently, of religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists — even libertarians."
However, Brennan is not Biden. He did not say that the Biden administration would deem libertarians terrorists. Brennan does not have a position in the Biden administration.
While Biden did say that the rioters who attacked the Capitol were domestic terrorists, he never mentioned libertarians.
